If you've never had a chance to experience it, we recommend joining us for the next one! Complete enough challenges within a league and you can earn an exclusive Hideout decoration. The great majority of Path of Exile players play in these temporary challenge leagues. The start date of a new challenge league is usually announced several weeks in advance, and the first day of a new league is always very exciting, and bustling with players. Once everything has transferred across to Standard or Hardcore, you can continue playing those characters where you left off. When a challenge league ends, all of the items, characters, Atlas progress, and virtually anything else you can think of, transfer to their parent leagues, the permanent Standard and Hardcore leagues. If you complete enough, you can earn exclusive microtransactions and Hideout decorations that are only available from that league. Many favourite Path of Exile features started out as challenge league mechanics: strongboxes, essences, breaches and tormented spirits, just to name a few.Ĭhallenge leagues also come with a set of special challenges (hence the name!). These leagues usually last about three months. Everyone starts with nothing in their stash or on their character, other than a few flasks and scrolls. These temporary leagues always have some twist or new gameplay mechanic that changes how you play, and a fresh economy. Path of Exile launches new temporary challenge leagues several times a year. Of course we don't know that, and we don't know how many people use the standalone client (GGG would know, however). While true, there's probably a ratio of Steam:Standalone that is pretty constant, so the steam numbers are representative of the actual numbers. It's the same game no matter how you choose to play. Steam charts do not account for the nonsteam players. So if the idea of not being able to play with others or being booted out of your league if you die doesn't appeal, don't worry. There is no tangible benefit to playing Hardcore or SSF - only the prestige. Players in SSF leagues can opt-out at any time and join the community of players in Standard (if they were playing Standard SSF), or Hardcore (if they were playing Hardcore SSF). That means the only items they have access to are the ones they've found or made. In these SSF leagues players cannot team up or trade with any other players. To reach a high level in Hardcore is a big achievement - one that even very experienced players struggle with.īoth of these modes also have a Solo Self-Found (SSF) variant. Characters that die in Hardcore are sent to Standard, along with any items they were carrying. In Hardcore, however, one death means you're out. Don't worry, you can't go down in level from dying too much. At higher levels you will start to lose a portion of your experience when you die. In Standard, if your character dies, you respawn at a nearby checkpoint and have the opportunity to try again. ![]() We don't even have enough data to put an estimation that's sad.The two primary modes for playing Path of Exile are Standard and Hardcore. ![]() With the amount of players expected with upcoming 3.0 it could be a really good thing to do it. There are more chance somebody discover POE trought steam than with a random google search ( even if i found it like that few years ago actualy ). ![]() What would be great is merging standalone statistics to steam charts tought, at least it would show the game is bigger than players tend to think when watching them. Soo actualy i think publishing realistic statistics would be an error. Only GGG could do some sort of stats like that but there arn't much advantages in publishing them, path of exile is popular but not enough to catch the same amount of players than some AAA games, and lot of players are judging a game on the number of players that play it before giving it a try ( same story than performances, p2w aspect or not etc. You also need to remove players that have a considerable amount of time AFK.Īlso consider that many players are using two accounts ( one for playing other one for trading ) it's a really common practice. Other things to consider to obtain a number that actualy make sense, it would be important to setup some criteria about what do you mean by Actively ( 1h per days ? 10h ? 100 hours per months ? etc. Second thing is we don't have any statements or proof about it but it seems that more players are using the standalone client of Path of Exile wich put them out of steam charts. It's hard to say how many players are playing actively this game.įew things to know Path of Exile is also distributed in China on separate realm as far as i know wich doesn't have public stats correct me if i'm wrong.
